Abstract

This paper discusses the language of imagery from a cognitive perspective, addressing the problem of the role of imagery in the comprehension of individual meanings and of the substantial core of polysemantic concepts. A literary analysis concludes that images associated with a concrete meaning are more precise than those associated with more abstract concepts, which are instead more general. The category of the image, having cognitive roots, aids in the correct interpretation of the lexical-semantic level. The paper argues that for an individual consciousness, the division of words into those with imagery and those without is not relevant.
