Drawing on cognitive linguistics and comics studies, the paper conducts a multimodal analysis of the visual metaphorisation of events in comics. It finds that a major strategy of the visual metaphorisation of events is their representation as static planar objects, cumulative and non-cumulative, and that such representation reflects the way events are understood and in turn conventionalised in language, with objectification occurring in both visual and linguistic mode.
