Abstract

This paper focuses on the depiction of urban space in several surviving Greek films of the 1920s and the 1930s, the Interwar period. The city constitutes the subject matter, thus, urban motifs, architectural and social mutations are discussed. This urban landscape reveals information over the modern features that the society had started adopting, as well as information about the various social groups and classes. Moreover, the study examines the narrative techniques of these old films which display a distinct variety since some of them are modern, others avant-garde, while certain are similar to those of Hollywood films.
