This article analyses Patria o muerte, a novel written by Alberto Barrera Tyszka that deals with Hugo Chávez’s sickness and death. In the novel we find symbolic relations between his body and health, and the political situation and contemporary history of Venezuela. Metaphors of sickness are analysesed as well as the naturalization of certain political views.
