This paper analyzes the well-known computer metaphor for the brain, adopting an argumentation theory perspective. For its advocates this metaphor constitutes a standpoint with explanatory power. However, argumentation theory would treat this metaphor either as a presentational device or an argument by analogy. Thus, the authors aim to find out how metaphors in general and how this specific metaphor function in argumentative discourse. Therefore, they attempt to reconstruct it as a standpoint by means of a complex argumentation structure: abduction supported by analogy.
