Abstract
Unlike the domain of emotions that has been widely studied in many different languages and cultures, an area that has not received much attention is the state of no emotion. This is the scope that the present research article deals with. The linguistic expressions showing no emotion in English and Greek are studied and much emphasis is placed on the respective cognitive processes taking place, namely metaphors and metonymies. Moreover, the interplay between metaphor and metonymy is discussed in depth as well as the cultural elements of the Greek and English languages that might make a difference in the conceptualization and the expression of the state of no emotion.
