Abstract

The article explores the integration of neologisms of English language origin into Russian from a lexical and semantic perspective. Specifically, the study is conducted on modern mass media texts in Russian and most recent lexicographic sources. The analysis pinpoints some relevant shifts involving metonymies (for instance, concrete object > abstract object) or metaphors. The metaphoric shift in particular often results in the emergence of polysemic structures, de-specialization of terms, as well as in secondary borrowings. Furthermore, the work inspects the impact of newest anglicisms on Russian by providing several examples of neosemy – many of which are still absent in dictionaries.
