Abstract

The constructional coercion, a core concept in the construction grammar, embodies cognition other than the entrenched way, thus being metonymic and embodied. This paper analyzed its mechanism and constraints and exemplified them with verbs. It found that the constructional coercion is a process, based on empirical understandings and re-highlighting by changing the profile of argument structures through the mechanism of metonymy.
