Abstract

The aim of this paper is to offer an analysis of metaphors used in the description pregnancy loss and related issues, such as encompassing miscarriage, stillbirth, or termination for foetal abnormality. The study also describes the effects of broadly understood pregnancy loss on people’s conceptions of themselves and their bodies, as well as offers further implications this has for recovery. The analysis proposed herein is based on a small corpus of interviews carried out both with individuals from England who have suffered such losses and people who support them. The pivotal aim of the study is to explore the nature of such bereavement and the way it manifests via metaphors.
