Abstract

The understanding of individual emotion depends on body-based behaviors, according to the theory of embodied emotion which is the theoretical foundation for the analysis of affectional performance in Natyasastra. Natyasastra is a work on dramatic art in ancient India. It discusses theories of drama and practices in theatre, including approaches to emotional expression. This paper explains how the theory of embodied emotion in Natyasastra is supported by physical theatre. Furthermore, it interprets the embodied metaphor effect as a cognitive mechanism of embodied emotion.
