Retracing the steps that have marked the history and the process of integration of the different generations of Italian Americans, the author reflects on how myths and metaphors have changed over time and how they have influenced the identity construction and the self-representation of these subjects. The American dream continues to have a great attractive force even on the “new Italian migrants” who choose to move to the United States.
