Baran, Marek. 1999. El pulso ondulante de la metaforizacion en terminologias de lengua española (The undulating pulse of metaphorization in Spanish-language terminologies). ATLANTIS. Journal of the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies 5 : 247–255. 9 pp.

Abstract

The phenomenon of terminological metaphors is analyzed from the perspective of two methodological approaches: structural semantics and cognitive semantics. Under the structural semantics approach, terminological metaphors are viewed as particular semic reorganizations. Within cognitive semantics, metaphor-motivated expressions form specific conceptual fields (e.g., ECONOMY IS WAR). Numerous Spanish-language examples are presented, taken from the disciplines of medicine, mycology, economics, information science, and marine science.
