The paper is part of a larger project on the “poetics of literary visualization”. Drawing on Imagist poetry, it explores the way in which image metaphors activate visualization. The author states that the two domains of such metaphors have similar shapes, which leads readers to form an intermediate template. The analysis shows that readers understand the metaphors due predominantly to the physical properties.
