Abstract

Brugman raises five questions re Lakoff's Invariant Hypothesis article: 1) he appears to use image-schematic and topological in an equivalent sense - are they? 2) How much plasticity does an image schematic structure have? 3) When must source and target properties be preserved? When are properties created? 4) Are properties mapped transitively? 5) What mappings are preferred? She also focuses in on whether some concepts can be entirely structured by metaphorical mappings.
