The purpose of the article is to provide a future translator with an organized procedure to tackle the rendering of poetic figures of speech. It first analyses and arranges the different figures and subsequently suggests the possibilities for their translation. It is not always possible to replace the source language metaphor by a target language equivalent. In many cases metaphors can be translated by only changing the components of the meaning. This change does not affect the real sense of the metaphor, it only affects the comparison. (Adapted from Francisco García)
