Abstract
This paper is a case study of the convergence of both linguistic and conceptual systematicity in one narrowly defined family of metaphorical expressions: WOMEN AS DESSERT. This family of metaphors is analysed in terms of distinctive features, showing how specific instantiations, comprising a discrete subset of the numerous and varied food/sex terms in the lexicon, are subject to multiple and sometimes overlapping linguistic motivations.
