The book "Kalba ir zmones" is a collection of articles on various aspects of linguistics. It consists of three parts. The first one is intended for presenting different trends of modern linguistics (cognitive, ethno-, sociolinguistics). The second part analyses some aspects of the history of language and linguistics: Geneva school structuralism, the Uralic family of languages, the first Lithuanian grammar in Lithuanian and the history of formation of Lithuanian surnames. The articles in the third part of the book describe the studies of Baltic languages in Japan and commemorate some Lithuanian linguists. The book is meant as a linguistics popularization means, mostly among young people. (Arturas Judzentis)
