Abstract

By using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) this research examined a small group of participants on texture metaphors, i.e. “rough day”, as opposed to their literal counterparts, i.e. “bad day”. The results support the conceptual metaphor theory of grounded cognition, as they showed activation of texture-selective somatosensory areas when processing this type of metaphors.
