The author continues the debate on the notion of “deliberateness” in metaphor theory. He responds to other scholars (Steen, Deignan and Müller) that had discussed some of the questions about the existence of deliberate metaphors that the author had already published in the same volume. The author concurs with Müller in that any consideration about metaphorical awareness should be seen as a matter of degree across discourse. Additionally, he holds that should be regarded as a holistic phenomenon, which therefore requires a combined linguistic, communicative and cognitive analysis.
