Metaphor, the most important and splendid of the tropes, is traditionally thought to be based on similarity. As mentioned by Aristotle in his Poetics, a good metaphor presumes the intuitive perception of similarity of dissimilar things and furnishes explanation through similarity. This paper is dealing with the question if similarity in metaphor is discovered or constructed. (Viktor Krupa)
