Abstract
This articles takes professional conflict and reframes the problem, using an interdisciplinary approach to help explain the origins and consequences of it. Specifically, it discusses faculty animosity in professional academia. The first part deals with academia's 'celebration of argument' and explores the use of conflict metaphors. The second section focuses on how the structure of academia may actually foster and maintain professional conflict. In part thee, the author discusses how the 'professional culture of professors' may give rise to animosity and conflict in the workplace. Finally, the consequences of faculty animosity is discussed and some strategies are given to help diminish it.
