Human dignity is a regulative concept in human reflexive understanding. In Kant's practical philosophy it is used a) internally in terms of moral philosophy, as a rule for action, and b) externally and ontologically, as boundary or condition of the possibility of any type of human self-understanding. In order to justify the latter, the possibility of a non-regressive discoursive account of this boundary is assumed. Such an account yields a boundary discourse which is itself located on the boundary which it discusses - in necessarily metaphorical form, which is explicated here in relation to its regulatory function.
