Abstract

The rich semantic imagery of the noun 'volk' (wolf) in Russian is illustrated with folk proverbs and colloquial idioms, and the figurative meanings of 'volk' in some phraseologisms are analyzed. Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva's use of this noun in her poetry is examined, and the poem "Volk" (The Wolf) is examined in detail to determine how the phraseological-lexical composition utilizes the extensive paremiological base of 'volk'.
