Abstract

Beyond the Western Tradition, volume 11 of "Translation Perspectives", was designed to correct the Eurocentric repertory of this biennial, published since 1983. The essayists approach translation either globally or regionally, but not Eurocentrically with sections representing the fringe of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the Far East, the Indian subcontinent, and Latin America. There is also an addendum of "Advice for Translating between any Two Natural Languages" with essays on analytic strategies, bibliographical aids, copyright, etc. Thus, two-thirds of the volume is addressed to translation scholars; the final third to their students.
