Abstract

This essay centres on the differences between the original text of Alice in Wonderland and three of its translations into Spanish, using as a framework Nida’s five types of culture. This analysis poses and answers three questions. A) Which is the greatest problem for the translator of Alice? B) Should the translator narrow the cultural gap? C) What is the translator’s role if not to narrow the cultural gap?
