This book includes some translations of Wang Fu's work. Margaret Pearson has translated fourteen of the thirty-six chapters of Qiánfu lùn, including almost in their entirey those reproduced in the History of the Later Han biography of Wang Fu. The selection is a wise one, since those are the chapters best known to Chinese literati down the centuries and the most influential on the history of Chinese political thought. The translation avoids the pittfalls of undue exoticism and the notes give interesting elucidations of realia and locate quotations and references in a most thorough way.
