Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to describe the linguistic properties of the Finnish Arbitration Act and compare them with the UNICITRAL Model Law. In some aspects references and comparisons are made to the Swedish Arbitration Act. For historical reasons the associations in culture and in intellectual and judicial life between Sweden and Finland have always been strong. Finland is officially a bilingual country and all legislation is published in Finnish and in Swedish. Both versions are legally authentic and binding. It is therefore interesting to see whether any relevant differences can be found either linguistically or in the contents or specificity.
