Abstract

This chapter discusses the importance of training for interpreters and those working alongside them. Training is vital if the service user is to receive an optimum service and clinicians are to make the best use of the opportunities afforded them by working with interpreters. This chapter considers what kind of training might be most useful for clinicians and interpreters. It then reviews training available for interpreters in Britain. Finally, it move son to make some suggestions about what kind of small scale training might benefit both interpreters and clinicians, and how agencies might consider setting this up. Finally, the chapter incorporates some briefing guidelines for clinicians or agencies using interpreters.
