Abstract

This books is divided into three volumes. Vol. I gives a systematic historical account of scientific document translation (SDT) in China from the Hang to the Qing dynasty (first century to 1911). It discusses important events, main translation organisations, famous translators and translation achievements. Vol. II discusses influences of translation on the development of science and technology in China. Education and foreign language education form the contents of Vol. III. There are also two appendices. Apendix I lists the most important events in Chinese SDT during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) and Appendix II brings together a selection of important historical documents on SDT.
