In this chapter, both authors highlight the broader context in which all acts of translation are essentially acts of communication aimed at enabling the construction of meaning, and text users engage in a form of negotiation which moves in a text-to-context direction. The authors discuss the three basic domains of textuality: text, structure and context. They also go deeper into the relation between interpreting and the standards of textuality; they discuss the prominence of texture in simultaneous interpreting and the prominence of structure in consecutive interpreting. The finish their chapter with a discussion on the prominence of context in liaison interpreting.
