Abstract
In the present article an attempt is made to analyse the patterns followed for rendering into English terms which are compound in the Russian language. The author classifies the various compound terms into different categories depending on the type of their word-formative structures in the Russian language. The main categories are as follows: 1. by combining together abbreviated stems of two or more terms; 2. by combining, either in full, or by using the first constituent in an abbreviated form; and 3. by combing two stems with a hyphen. These main categories were then divided into various subcategories on the basis of the patterns followed in these terms when they are rendered into English.
