This article presents an outline of translatology, providing a historical account of linguistic translation analysis, examining the main unit of translatology, i.e. the logeme and discussing the use of logemes in practice. The latter part is treated under several headings, discussing its different usage, namely in the translating operation, in interpreting, in the formation of translators, and in translation criticism.
