The present article deals with the levels of translation, which represent the obligations that a translator has in regard to his text. The author examines the concepts of faithfulness and equivalence, discusses a particular definition of translation and then looks into the different levels of translation, being the semantic level, the idiomatic level, the metaphorical level and the stylistic level.
