Abstract

The writings of Alexander Pope were introduced in Holland not in English but through an intermediary language, namely French. The present article deals with the reception of Pope in literature, mainly in magazines. The opinions are grouped in five sections: Pope as example in the the discussion on translation; Pope as philosopher; Pope's literary qualities and his literary criticism; and Pope as a person (his life and personality).
