Abstract
When rendering a typographic presentation of a prose translation the original text is not always taken into account. Often paragraphs are contracted or accent marks are treated inconsistently. In the present article the author argues that accent marks have an enormous impact on the style of a text. This impact is examined by means of an analysis of the use of italics in Madame Bovary, in which Flaubert allocates a special use to italicisation
