Abstract

Whatever the options of authorities, service providers, community organisations, training institutions and clients, liaison interpreters are performing an important role without the necessary appreciation. They are exposed every day to the response of services to clients. Their work is difficult and stressful. Their goals and desires, including proper training, mentoring, decent remuneration and status, are legitimate but have thus far remained largely unrealised. They, too, have the right to be heard and understood.
