Abstract
Conducting interviews in a social work situation always requires knowledge, a good disposition and expertise, but if the interview is conducted with the aid of an interpreter, special skill is required with regard to each of these prerequisites for successful interviewing. The research on which this chapter is based was conducted among Portuguese-speaking members of the South African National Defence Force. The study investigated the importance of ensuring that the social worker and the interpreter work together as a team. This article goes deeper into the historical background of the study, the aim of the study, the process, the findings and recommendations, etc.
