In this paper, the author focuses on translation policy for minority languages in the European languages in the European Union. The author distinguished between three levels of an apparently egalitarian linguistic situation. At the first level are the official languages of the member states, which are also official in the European institutions. Even in this level, the languages have a unequal statu es. The second level contains the non-official languages of the European union, the “minorised languages” like Corsican, Faroese or Catalan. Some of these minorised languages have more speakers than certain official languages. The third level are the languages used by immigrants, so for example Arab, Chinese or Vietnamese.
