The main aim of this study is to present the reader with a number of reflections on the translation difficulties found when writing the Spanish version of one of the first and finest works by the Mozambican author Mia Couto, Vozes Anoitecidas, which was translated in English with the title Voices made night. The linguistic and geographic proximity of Portuguese does not prevent the language from being virtually unknown for a considerable part of the population of the Spanish state, which certainly encourages the translation into Spanish of different literary works written in this language. However, if we add the postcolonial situation, which has left an undeniable print on the language and culture of Mozambican people, the tasks can actually become a hard but luring challenge.
