Abstract

The restoration of democracy in Spain witnessed the rebirth of translation between the different languages spoken in some regions of the country, from and into Spanish and also among themselves. The creation of regional governments and the progressive recovery of regional languages made possible the recovery of translation practice. The author of this article focuses on translation between Spanish and Catalan, and on the period from the restoration of democracy up to present day: there are some important changes in this short peiod. The author starts by looking at the data on publishing output, which will provide an general view of everything that is published, and will include data on literary translation. Furthermore the author examines other areas, which are more difficult to classify because in most cases the translations are not published and often the name of the author does not even appear at the end of the text. The author’s aim is to offer a preliminary, general exploration, of the different areas dealt with.
