The present article looks into the English translations of Japanese patent claims. A methodology of translating such claims into English comprises: (1) identifying individual elements of the claim, (2) naming them properly, (3) arranging them in a logical order, and (4) setting forth modifiers as to interrelate them to each other and define the features of each element.
