Abstract

The lack of understanding of the court interpreter's importance to the legal system and of the work demands placed upon him, have contributed to the mislabeling of the court interpreter as a practioner. In the present article a comparison is made of the translator's and court interpreter's working conditions and legal requirements for the practice of the two professions. The need for recognition of the court interpreter as a professional by other professionals is pointed out.
