Weber, Wilhelm K. 1986. Improved ways of teaching consecutive interpretation. In Kummer, Karl, ed. Building bridges. Medford: Learned Information. pp. 399–407.

Abstract

The author reports on the results of a method of introducing beginning students to the art of consecutive interpretation at the Graduate Division of Translation and Interpretation at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. The method attempts to differentiate between natural aptitudes and repetitive skills which can be taught much like certain routine movements of an athlete, thereby allowing the student to concentrate on the more complicated tasks and to optimize his performance, simulating from the outset a "professional reality".
