Abstract

In this article, the author, teaching note-taking techniques herself at the university of Heidelberg, discusses some techniques which can be used for note-taking in a context of consecutive interpretation. She first discusses the importance of the teaching of note-taking techniques and discusses some preparatory exercises. She then highlights several items which play a role in the note-taking process: paraphrase, synonyms, hyponyms, collocations, etc. Ahrens also enters into close exercises and exercises which focus on the split span, the division of concentration on two simultaneous tasks.
