Abstract
The current article presents an example of Western efforts to multiply the volume of translation from Arabic into European languages. The project, Mémoires de la Méditerranée, encourages simultaneous translations of the same Arabic text, mainly autobiographical works, into many European languages. The author also suggests that Arab writers are still perceived as unequal to their Western counterparts: they are considered eternal beginners.
