This article consists of five parts. First the author recapitulates the major debates on translation and comments on the consequences for training translators. In the second part three problems of translation are tackled, being iconographic elements, typographic elements and layout. Next the author examines the role of linguistics in translation and describes a concrete translation process. Finally the author proposes a categorisation of texts which illustrate the diversity of translation problems and help students in their approach of these problems.
