Abstract
In this article the author discusses translations of three of Harold Pinter’s works: The Birthday Party, The Caretaker and The Homecoming. Pinter handles language in a very specific, personal way, and this has been puzzling critics for decades. The problems have to do with the ambivalent attitude towards the so-called obscure character of Pinter’s language.
