Language and translation are important elements that animate the life of different societies. They are linked, evolving, and are both closely associated with the concepts of communication, exchange of ideas, diffusion and interaction of cultures. There is no translation without language. The increase in contacts among peoples for economic, political, technical, scientific, social or cultural reasons, has helped in the evolution of languages, translation and has encouraged loanwords. Loaning of words is more pronounced with the advancement of technology and new inventions indispensable for less technologically developed countries. The English language, reflecting American technology, possesses new words corresponding to the new technology. The Yoruba, while importing the new technology, borrows new words, adopts and adapts them to the linguistic structure of the Yoruba language. The Yoruba language is more disposed to borrow from the English language because Yoruba speakers import most technology from America. Today, it is the level of technology that dictates the volume of words to be borrowed. The more you are advanced technologically, the less you borrow words.
