Koskinen, Kaisa. 2000. Beyond ambivalence: postmodernity and the ethics of translation. Tampere: University of Tampere. 130 pp.

Abstract

This study on the ethics of translation focuses on developments within the field of Translation Studies. Centered around the notion of the postmodern, it attempts to analyse and assess the state of the art in the ethics of translation in contemporary translation theory. It deals with new developments such as feminist translation, deconstruction, and postcolonial theories. Within the general framework of contemporary theories, the work of Lawrence Venuti (minoritising translation) and Anthony Pym (the ethics of intercultural cooperation) is subjected to a deconstructive analysis. In this thesis the author aims to provide a critical overview of the postmodern tendencies in translation theories, with particular emphasis on deconstruction and associated theories.
