Abstract
Over several decades the author has reflected that writings about the theory of translation can be theoretical. Over these same decades, he has also sought out every clear and concrete image of analogy thgat could help to explain what translation is to those in other language-related fields, to those teaching or learning translation, and the those totally outside the profession. The present article provides some of the notions the author acquired.
